Accounting Records Reconstruction & Financial Reporting

Preparation of reliable financial statements where books are incomplete, poorly maintained, or have not been kept at all.

Serving businesses across Nigeria from our Port Harcourt office.

Many Nigerian businesses reach a reporting deadline with bank statements, invoices, and tax filings — but without a usable ledger. That is a defined professional engagement, not a gap in the service list.

Joe Adinma & Co. reconstructs accounting records from the documents that remain, then prepares financial statements under IFRS or IFRS for SMEs as applicable. Partner review remains part of the work.

Who needs this

  • Incomplete or missing accounting records
  • Bank statements without a reliable general ledger
  • Unbalanced trial balances
  • Years of unprocessed transactions
  • Accounts that must be reconstructed before audit or tax filing
  • Poorly maintained Excel records
  • A change in accounting staff with an incomplete handover
  • Missing bank, customer, or supplier reconciliations

What we work with

  • Bank statements
  • Invoices and receipts
  • Payroll records
  • Tax filings
  • Asset schedules
  • Customer and supplier records
  • Existing ledgers, where available
  • Previous financial statements

What we do

  1. Step 01

    Records assessment

Identify what exists, what is missing, and the reporting periods that can be reconstructed on a defensible basis.

  2. Step 02

    Transaction reconstruction

Classify receipts and payments from bank statements and supporting documents into a structured transaction record.

  3. Step 03

    Reconciliations

Reconcile banks and, where evidence allows, customers, suppliers, and tax accounts.

  4. Step 04

    Ledger and trial balance

Build ledgers, establish opening balances, and produce a trial balance for the period.

  5. Step 05

    Adjusting entries

Post accruals, prepayments, depreciation, and other period-end adjustments required by the reporting framework.

  6. Step 06

IFRS / IFRS for SMEs treatment

Apply the standards that govern the entity, including disclosure of significant judgements and the basis of preparation.

  7. Step 07

    Financial statements and review

Prepare the statements and notes, then review the file at partner level before delivery.

Where accounting records have become incomplete or unreliable, early reconstruction is generally less costly than allowing several reporting periods to accumulate. Management remains responsible for the records and for the financial statements.
